On the Bright Side: A Review of JolieMD by NubiaMag

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

One of the main reasons we created Metamorphosis was to help women of color achieve beautiful, makeup free skin. We know it takes time and that many women are disappointed by all the promises that other products make and then fail to achieve. So we are excited to see all the different women who have tried Metamorphosis and are already seeing the difference.

“Hyper-pigmentation and acne scars can be annoying little pests that make a home on your face without as much of a hint of disappearing. If you’re like me and have tried many different do it yourself fade creams, peels and exfoliation that didn’t work, you probably wouldn’t be convinced that any other product on the market is really worth its weight.

Fortunately, I was given the opportunity to use a new line of products from two facial plastic surgeons out of Beverly Hills. Doctors Peyman Solieman and Jason Litner created JolieMD Metamorphosis, a two-step system for ethnic skin that diminishes wrinkles, pigmentation and reduces acne while calming the triggers of new discoloration including inflammation and sun damage. With continued use over six weeks you will begin to notice a difference in your skin.”

JolieMD Metamorphosis vs Prescription Strength Hydroquinone: Simply look at the comparison

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Many patients have always thought that in order to even their skin tone and remove the sun damage or post pregnancy heperpigmentatiion, that their only option was to go see their physician and get a prescription for hydroquinone or a hydroquinone containing product like Triluma. And this is just one of the great reasons that we created JolieMD.

First, and most importantly, JolieMD works. Hydoquinone is a compound that simply acts to competitively inhibit the major enzyme (Tyrosinase) that produces your pigment (melanin). What this means is that it competes with the Tyrosinase enzyme’s natural molecule in your body ( an amino acid tyrosine) as it attempts to be converted to melanin. So, in theory, the more hydroquinone you use, the less pigment your body makes.

Unfortunately, hydroquinone has many potential and real draw backs. Hydroquinone is very unstable and rapidly gets oxidized. It can induce redness, skin irritation, contact dermatitis (allergic reaction), and at a high enough concentration it can cause permanent skin depigmentation. Moreover, chronic usage of cosmetics containing hydroquinone can result in ochronosis, which commonly presents as asymptomatic blue-black macules on the cheeks, temples,  and neck. And there are even reports that chronic use can cause your body to exude an offensive fish odor in the sweat that is described as “fish odor syndrome.” As a result of these problems, as well as its potential carcinogenic effects, hydroquinone has already been banned in Europe as well as much of Asia. And here, in the U.S., In 2006, the United States Food and Drug Administration revoked its previous approval of hydroquinone and proposed a ban on all  over the counter preparations. While this did not happen, Dr Litner and I decided that there must be a better alternative- JolieMD.

While products that contain hydroquinone generally rely on its one mechanism to remove spots, JolieMD was formulated to include 19 different active ingredients that have clinically proven lightening abilities, and do not have any of the potential issues that the use of hydroquinone brings up. Moreover, unlike hydroquinone containing alternatives JolieMD has clinically proven anti-aging and anti-acne ingredients that allow you to truly achieve the glowing, youthful, makeup free skin you have always wanted. So below we have included a small chart of just some of the benefits that JolieMD has over hydroquinone containing alternatives. And, we have even attached a more fully developed chart for those interested in a pdf format here Hydroquinone-vs-JolieMD

Naturally JolieMD- See the Great Natural Actives in JolieMD

Monday, April 5th, 2010

One of the keys to JolieMD is our determination to be as transparent as possible so you can know exactly what you are using, and why we used those particular ingredients to formulate both JolieMD’s Softening Serum and Enlightening Lotion. Much of this stems from the confusion Dr Litner and I have always heard coming from our patients when we talk to them about their skin. Most people really don’t know what ingredients their products have or how the products are supposed to work. So we wanted to help you become as educated as you want to be about why JolieMD works.

Throughout the process we wanted to make sure the products had the best active ingredients nature had to offer, and so that’s why both Softening Serum and Enlightening Lotion each are over 20% active ingredients. Compare this to the majority of products out on the market today, which have at most 3-4% active ingredient, and you begin to understand why JolieMD can do so much in 2 simple steps.

Below are just some of the great natural ingredients that Softening Serum and Enlightening Lotion have :

AntiOxidants

Green Tea Extract, Willowherb, Gluconolactone, Phytic Acid, Tartaric Acid, Citric Acid, Hexylresorcinol

Botanicals

Morus Alba Bark Extract, Bearberry, Licorice Extract, Feverfew (parthenolide- free) extract, Soybean Seed Extract, Willowherb, Vegetable- derived Squalane, Bisabolol (Chamomile extract), Plant Sterols

Fruit Extracts

Citric Acid, Malic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Tartaric Acid

Marine BioActives

Palmaria Palmata, Glucosamine

Minerals/ Vitamins

Vit A (Retinyl acetate), Vit E (Tocopherol), Vit B3 (Niacinamide)

What It is Formulated Without

Parabens, Phthalates, Hydroquinone, Synthetic Fragrances, Dyes, Petro- Chemicals, Sulfites

JolieMD: The Message

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

One of the most important parts of a project like JolieMD was messaging; now that Dr Litner and I had created our hero products, how were we going to explain that this product worked on anti- aging by removing fine lines and wrinkles as well as by evening skin tone, while also combating stubborn acne and hyperpigmentation.

Here we need to first thank Nadine Jolie, who was there to help us take out the medicalese and explain in clear terms what women needed to know. Tirelessly, she edited copy after copy of the philosophy behind the brand, the ingredients present and how they worked, and the irritants that we had avoided and why we had avoided them. She helped fashion the message we wanted to tell: that we had combined over 22% active ingredients in each- Softening Serum and Lightening Lotion- and that was why JolieMD works- period.

And more, Nadine was there, with our Practice Manager Baharak Amirian, to review the packaging to make sure it is feminine enough, sophisticated enough; to feel the products and make sure they are smooth enough, soft enough. Their fingerprints, along with our families and friends, have been present throughout the project from the beginning, and so we named this beautiful new product JolieMD- because from the beginning Dr Litner and I want to create a new brand that has that unique combination that we think had eluded skin care to date- an effective, simple to use product, that was beautiful…that was Jolie.

With the message complete, we turned to the PR expertise of Erin Kelly of The Collective, and our dear friend and retail liaison Danielle Bristol Chang, who together and in their own respective ways have worked tirelessly reaching out to beauty bloggers, beauty editors, and beauty buyers everywhere to get the word out that there is a new brand of skin care- JolieMD.

Dr Litner and I cannot thank our dedicated team enough for all their efforts to let you know about JolieMD.

Finding JolieMD- Creating a New Brand of Skin Care

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

The Inspiration

In the beginning, Dr Litner and I wanted to accomplish one simple thing:

Create the best possible treatment for the 3 things that all women want from their skin care products:

1. To be rid of acne

2. To have even, smooth complexion, free of hyperpigmentation and the need for cover up

3. To achieve and maintain vibrant, youthful skin as free of wrinkles as possible for as long as possible.

While Dr Litner and I spent hundreds and thousands of hours in researching acne, aging, hyperpigmentation and the ingredients we needed to create the best possible product to treat them, JolieMD’s Metamorphosis would not have been the great product it is but for the help of all the people in our lives who helped us create it. So we wanted to acknowledge the hard work of everyone of the JolieMD team, who each in their own way is a co-creator of our amazing product. Over the next few days we wanted to take some time to highlight the efforts of some of our many co-creators.

For me personally the search for JolieMD, as with all creation, started with an inspiration, my beautiful girlfriend, Sheree. What was striking for me was that over the years Sheree would often remark on how she had never found any skin care products that not only stopped her acne breakouts but also the resulting hyperpigmentation that led her to use cover up every day to even out her complexion.

This simple idea, a product that stopped acne, cleared hyperpigmentation, and allowed for a youthful, wrinkle free complexion brought countless people to us whose contribution, small and large, led Dr Litner and I to create a new brand of skin care.

Afrobella endorses JolieMD Metamorphosis!

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

When it comes to beauty, Patrice Yursik, aka Afrobella, really knows her stuff.  Not only is her beauty blog one of the most popular on the internet, but she has a loyal following devoted to her every recommendation.  Why?  Patrice only writes about products she personally stands behind and that she feels are truly worth readers’ money and time.  As a result, she covers very few beauty items–and those that make it past her filters are stellar.  Her words on JolieMD Metamorphosis:

“I have had ups and down with my skin.  But recently it’s been all ups.  Totally delightful ups…I have one product to thank.  JolieMD…My skin is glowier and clearer than its been…well, possibly, ever.”
