It’s Not About a Magic Berry: A New Way of Looking at Skin Care

Modern “technology” in skin care has come a long way compared to the state one would have found even 10-15 years ago. Research into the vast array of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, botanicals, marine bioactives, and fruit extracts as well as penetrants, texturizers and emulsifiers have truly led to a remarkable turnaround in the quality of skin care presently available to consumers.

And yet for the great majority of women, there has still been something lacking- Real Results. How else can you explain the confusion you encounter walking down an aisle of your local beauty store. Why does every brand have an entire wall of products designed to help treat your skin?

What we sought and achieved with JolieMD is not just a distinct point of view, a new way of looking at skin care but real results. We wanted women to accomplish what they have always really wanted: beautiful, vibrant skin. In the process, we created a simple 2 step system that allows your skin to be at once less susceptible to acne, younger looking, and clear of the hyperpigmentation that has arisen from years of sun damage, acne and hormonal changes.

Where all previous skin care brands have been designed under an artificial system of skin “diseases”   requiring a wall of products consisting of an “acne system,” a “hyperpigmentation system,” an “anti-aging system,” so on and so forth; JolieMD is a 2 step system.

You may ask how is this possible?

The answer is not a magic berry, or a new peptide. Instead, it is an innovative new approach to skin care that combines the best ingredients nature has to offer in the concentrations science has shown to be required to affect real results.

JolieMD: The Message

One of the most important parts of a project like JolieMD was messaging; now that Dr Litner and I had created our hero products, how were we going to explain that this product worked on anti- aging by removing fine lines and wrinkles as well as by evening skin tone, while also combating stubborn acne and hyperpigmentation.

Here we need to first thank Nadine Jolie, who was there to help us take out the medicalese and explain in clear terms what women needed to know. Tirelessly, she edited copy after copy of the philosophy behind the brand, the ingredients present and how they worked, and the irritants that we had avoided and why we had avoided them. She helped fashion the message we wanted to tell: that we had combined over 22% active ingredients in each- Softening Serum and Lightening Lotion- and that was why JolieMD works- period.

And more, Nadine was there, with our Practice Manager Baharak Amirian, to review the packaging to make sure it is feminine enough, sophisticated enough; to feel the products and make sure they are smooth enough, soft enough. Their fingerprints, along with our families and friends, have been present throughout the project from the beginning, and so we named this beautiful new product JolieMD- because from the beginning Dr Litner and I want to create a new brand that has that unique combination that we think had eluded skin care to date- an effective, simple to use product, that was beautiful…that was Jolie.

With the message complete, we turned to the PR expertise of Erin Kelly of The Collective, and our dear friend and retail liaison Danielle Bristol Chang, who together and in their own respective ways have worked tirelessly reaching out to beauty bloggers, beauty editors, and beauty buyers everywhere to get the word out that there is a new brand of skin care- JolieMD.

Finding JolieMD: The Formuation

The Formulation

In our ongoing “Who’s who” list of all those who helped Dr Litner and I create JolieMD, we wanted to turn today to perhaps the most challenging step in the creation of JolieMD- those who helped us in the real work of putting all of the ingredients we wanted together in a formulation that feels great, achieves real results, and is non- irritating.

So in formulation, Dr Litner and I would have to thank first and foremost,  John Garruto, Tina Fleck, and the entire team of chemists at Free Radical Technology who helped us put Metamorphosis together. In formulating Softening Serum and Enlightening Lotion, their team had the unenviable position of having to achieve the previously unimaginable.

In 2 steps we wanted to blend all of the ingredients we had researched and needed to stop acne, treat hyperpigmentation, and fight wrinkles, and the product had to:

1 Be gentle enough for every complexion

2 Stay effective for the life of the product (wanted active ingredients to remain active and not oxidize), and

3. Be free of all the potentially harmful elements (think parabens, sulfates, and phthalates that are ubiquitous in the skin care industry)

The team at Free Radical was amazing in not only achieving our requests but also in making sure that the products felt better smooth and luxurious and did not cause any bleaching or staining of pillows or clothes as so many other products do.

Simply put, the Free Radical Technology team is amazing and Dr Litner and I cannot thank them enough for all their help.
